How the Calculation Works
The battery storage calculator determines the optimal storage capacity based on several factors:
Basic Calculation
The base capacity is determined from two rules of thumb:
- 1 kWh per 1,000 kWh annual consumption - The more you consume, the more storage is worthwhile
- 1 kWh per kWp PV capacity - Storage size should match system size
Adjustment Factors
The following factors influence the recommended storage size:

Example: A 4-person household with an 8 kWp PV system and 5,000 kWh annual consumption typically needs an 8-10 kWh storage.
